Dorothy’s first day at a new school. She’s very shy, so she walks far behind the other students, thinking that they’re laughing at her

Dorothy seeks comfort from her mother after a particularily nasty bullying session at school, but all she is met with is an extremely frazzled Beatrix. She’s always been there for Dorothy but in this moment their relationship cracks because Dorothy realizes “what a burden she is on her mother”.

On the way to town one day, Dorothy sees a painter on the hill overlooking town. She’s super intrigued because Dorothy’s never else into art like she is, so she decides to approach the painter to ask about her work.

Dorothy finds an old travel journal her grandmother Anneliese keeps in the attic, where Dorothy reads all about her journey to Egypt and meeting grandfather Alexander. She also learns the reasons behind the feud between Anneliese and Dorothy’s mom, Beatrix and finally understands why she was kept away from her grandmother all these years.

Concept of Dorothy’s grandmother’s mansion. The building started out as a regular “Norlandshus” Alexander and Anneliese bought it. With the money from Anneliese’s dowry, they rebuilt it to be their dream home, both suited for a family and their continued botanical research.
